“Deconstructed” opened May 2nd, 2020 at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, CA
“Deconstructed” was a visualization of one’s self identity and the fragmented way many view themselves. It delves into our many dreams and thoughts (good or bad) and displays how we feel or overcome these emotions.
Pain and turmoil may surround us in this world, but it’s how we live and work through it that makes it worthwhile. We need to take the time to relax, regroup, and focus on ourselves and take better care of one another.
The youth is crying out and they want their voices to be heard and projected outward. Many don’t know how to speak up for themselves, but then again, many adults would probably ignore their requests. This only causes the children to bottle up their emotions and if they never get the help, love, and support, they unravel.
I started painting for this exhibition during the beginning of the pandemic. It was a very strange time and the world around me seemed to be falling apart. My surroundings changed and everything looked unrecognizable. People had their faces covered, political divide was at an all time high, and paranoia was everywhere. A few of my family and friends were struggling tremendously and some couldn’t handle the new reality.
I wanted this show to display those chaotic times while exposing the emotions and mental state of many who were not having the best time during that year. It was a time where we had to prioritize what was important in our lives and hold on to what’s dear, while trying not to go crazy.
